Lies, and evil, tend to multiply. A couple of wrong words spoken with resentment and the desire to hurt, overgrown with monstrous story, with ugly shape. To dispel spoken is unlikely to succeed because the people have accepted it as the truth. Harder to admit a mistake than to correct a misunderstanding, and cross out casually thrown words.
