Gilbert Keith Chesterton. The paradoxes of Mr. pond (№ 251099)

The world for him was not a green field where everything is budding, growing, fruiting, and the precipice, where, over time, as if in a bottomless pit, falls everything is alive and that thought helped him to do these strange duties entrusted to him in this monstrous world. Gray-green spots of vegetation, looked on top of the expanded geographical map, seemed to him rather a history than a story of growth, and the waters, seemed to him full of no fresh water, and poison.
