Jonathan Franzen. Distant island (№ 253989)

It is curious that Robinson Crusoe in all twenty-eight years of life on his Island of Despair never gets bored. Yes, first he complains about the heaviness and monotony of their labors, and later admits that very tired, wandering the island in search of the savages, complains that there is no tubes so he can not smoke growing on the island of tobacco, called the first year with Friday as its the happiest year on the island. But the modern need for stimulants completely alien to him. Perhaps the most striking feature of the novel is that Robinson pulled three barrels of rum a quarter of a century; I would drink the rum for a month, just to close the issue.
