Oscar Wilde. The Picture Of Dorian Gray (№ 153578)

Often a genuine tragedy in my life take a unaesthetic form that offend us by their rude fury, the extreme irrationality and senselessness, the complete lack of finesse. They are abhorrent to us, as all vulgar. We can smell them just brute force, and rise up against it. But it happens that in life, we encounter a drama that has artistic elements of beauty. If these elements of beauty are real, the drama of the event captures us. And we suddenly find that we are no longer the actors, but the spectators of the tragedy. Or, rather, both. We watch ourselves, and the strangeness of this spectacle we know.
