Henry David Thoreau. Walden, or Life in the woods (№ 241929)

Labour builds the wisdom and purity; laziness breeds ignorance and sensuality. The scientist sensuality is expressed in mental laziness. The man unclean is always a sloth, a lover to sit at the furnace, to fall apart in the sun and relax, not having to get tired. To achieve purity and away from sin, to work tirelessly on any job, at least it was cleaning the stables. To conquer nature is hard, but to win it is necessary. What is the point in being a Christian, if you are not purer Gentile, if you don't surpass his abstinence and piety?
