Man is not afraid of failure, he is afraid of success. Since in case of failure, he, plus / minus, retains his “stable given” and continues to live his understandable habitual life as before, without losing anything much. If successful, the person enters the “zone of uncertainty”, with all possible stresses, fears and not knowing what to expect. That is what scares him.
