There are two different ways of writing history: one is to encourage people to virtue, the other to persuade them to the truth.

Never remind people about the services provided to you in the past. If it is a noble and grateful people, they don't need reminders, but if ungrateful and ignoble, and to remind them of the past - an empty case.

A real historian should be above political turmoil of his time.
