The performance of the Decembrists was not an event isolated from the world social development - it was part of the struggle of the peoples of Europe against the feudal-absolutist system. Suffice it to recall the Great French revolution 1789-1793 years, revolution of the early 1820-ies in Spain, Portugalia, Naples.

The Decembrist movement emerged in the conditions of crisis of the feudal-serf system in Russia and served as one of the manifestations of this crisis. It was generated by socio-economic and political contradictions of Russian life in the first half of the nineteenth century. Not crushing the old order, it was impossible to move along the path of bourgeois development.

The Decembrists were the color of Russia. Many of them received an excellent education. Among the Decembrists were highly talented people, including having the gift of writing. Therefore, the memories and letters of the Decembrists convey their thoughts and intentions, not only reveal their activities and struggles, but also give a broad picture of social life in Russia, convey to us the living language of the time.
