Character: Vladimir Arsenyev Klavdievich

In the evening I recorded my observations, and Dersu roasted on a spit Sabatino. During dinner I dropped a piece of meat into the fire. Seeing this, Dersu quickly pulled it from the fire and threw it to the side.
- Why throw meat into the fire? he asked me acidly. - How can it burn in vain! Our tomorrow left here the other people go eat. Into the fire throw the meat, its so damn.
Who else comes here? - I asked him in turn.
- Like who? - he was surprised. - Go raccoon, badger or crow; crow no mouse go, the mouse no ant - go. In the taiga many kinds of people there.
It became clear to me: Dersu cared not only about humans but also about animals, even such small as an ant. He loved the forest with its inhabitants and otherwise cared about her.

"Settled there, where they sing; who sings that evil thinks" - I remembered the old Swiss proverb.
