“Simple,” Romana corrected.

At first, Romana did not understand his persistence: an excellent path led along the river, along which they could safely walk, enjoying the views and not risking drowning. However, the Doctor took up the rowing pole with such enthusiasm that Romana decided to relax and go with the flow in any possible sense of this expression.

From the Doctor's point of view, K-9 beat Romana on all fronts: he unconditionally obeyed orders, appeared as soon as they were called, and turned off at the touch of a button.
