Many centuries were required to people to at least verbally acknowledge that other life has the same value as their own lives. In practice, by and large, everything remains as before: if necessary in their own interests to sacrifice the lives of others, they do it easily, without compunction or hesitation, but strongly resent when others easily dispose of their own lives.
