Sigmund Freud. The interpretation of dreams (№ 176328)

Another group of dreams which may be called typical, is related to the death of close relatives, parents, brothers, sisters, children, etc. Among these dreams can discern two kinds: one, during which the sleeper does not feel the heavy sorrow and upon awakening surprised at their insensitivity, and others, during which grief and loss can cause a real bitter tears during sleep. Dreams of the first variety we will leave aside; they cannot be called typical. When analyzed we see that they mean something very distant from their content and what they are intended solely to cover any other desire.
Quote Explanation: the basic postulate of the theory of Freud that every dream is the essence of the unfulfilled desire of the dreamer.
