Nestor The Chronicler. The tale of bygone years (№ 442921)

God, in his anger, brings foreigners to the earth, and then in grief people remember God; internecine war comes from the devilish temptation, after all, God does not want evil to people, but good; but the devil rejoices in evil murder and shedding of blood, kindling quarrels and envy, fraternal hatred, slander. When a nation falls into sin, God will execute him with death, or famine, or an invasion of the filthy, or a drought, or a caterpillar, or other executions, so that we repent, for God commands us to live in repentance and says to us through the prophet: Turn to me with all your heart, in fasting and weeping.” If we do this, all sins will be forgiven us; but we return to evil, like a pig, forever soiled in sinful feces, and so we remain.
