Tonight we celebrate the arrival of the new year, now is the time of expectation and hope. I believe it will be a really good year. Our economy is healthy. Our defense is strong. Our policy of peace through force pays off with a vengeance. In 6 weeks, the Soviet Union must withdraw the remaining forces from Afghanistan. I am confident that the Soviets will stick to their schedule and leave by February 15, which will be a great day for world peace.
