They did approximately the same thing that, judging by the stories and books, these representatives of the law always do in such cases: they detained several people, obviously innocent; with a zeal that deserves better use, they developed theories that were clearly fantastic; and stubbornly fitted facts to their theories, instead of building theories based on facts.
