This means that the main thing for us is not to become like sheep, which always run after the flock, heading not where they need to go, but where everyone is going. There is no thing in the world that brings us more evils and troubles than the habit of conforming to public opinion, considering as the best what is accepted by the majority and to which we see more examples; we live not by understanding, but by imitation. Hence this eternal crush, where everyone is pushing each other, trying to push back.
