Character: Ibn Rushd

Scientists, thanks to the activity of their minds, comprehend the highest truth of existence. So, they came to the conclusion: it is not true that the world was created by God out of nothing, the world exists forever, and it is the result of the interaction of the First Form and the First Matter. But, knowing this truth, philosophers understand that for all other people the doctrine of God is the best substitute for philosophical truth. From here follows the doctrine of two truths: one genuine - philosophical, and the other - religious, which is a substitute for philosophical for all other people. It is better for non-philosophers not to say anything about philosophical truths.

People who are open to dialectical reasoning want to be sure that nothing that Revelation teaches is contrary to natural reason, and they want reasons why they should believe this rather than that. The function of theology is to find dialectical justifications with the help of which the picture of the world and the meaning of human existence given to us in Revelation (the Koran) will seem more true than any others.

Simple people guided by imagination rather than reason; can only be persuaded through rhetorical arguments. Thus, you cannot convince some nomad with philosophical arguments (which he does not understand) that it is not good to rob and kill other people. But, using the Koran (Divine Revelation), such a nomad can be taught that for bad behavior Allah will punish him with eternal torment in hell.
