We have driven ourselves into a trap. We fought against one evil, but became slaves to another.

For some, pride and heroes, for others - slaves and cannon fodder.

God doesn't need slaves!

Just as you presented your members as slaves to uncleanness and lawlessness for wicked works, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness for holy works.

For some inexplicable reason, Christians want to see themselves as slaves. They say they are servants of Christ and call their god "master".

It is a sad fact of today that everywhere in the empire you see land being cultivated by slaves and not by free farmers as in the old days. But it was the free farmers who made Rome great with their labor! Nowadays, feet shackled in chains walk through the estates; the land is cultivated with hands that work under a stick; Branded faces look at you. Mother Earth is not so stupid as not to notice that proud and free peasants have been replaced by arrogant and lazy slaves.

The worst thing for a household is if its slaves live in dungeons that look like prison cells, because everything that is done by people who have no hope for the best is done extremely poorly.

In fact, somewhere deep inside we are all slaves. Someone is a slave of sex, another is a slave of money, the third is an uncontrollable strive for fame, being its slave, the fourth is a slave of high status. We are all slaves of hope and fear.

Slaves, like ordinary free people, work poorly if good work does not bring benefits, and bad work is punished.

For you will hardly be surprised to learn that slaves show greater cruelty to each other than their master is capable of.

Rome is full of slaves. I have heard that one in three or four inhabitants of the Italian peninsula is a slave. Even over the vast expanse of the entire empire, whose population numbers no less than 60-70 million people, one in eight is a slave. Moreover, slaves can be found not only in rural areas. The city of Rome is swarming with all kinds of slaves, their number here is as great as in other places. Perhaps a million slaves live in the capital, and some claim that at least a third of its population are slaves. Although such assessments are nothing more than assumptions of people with a rich imagination, they at the same time indicate how important the institution of slavery was for the world of the Romans. We Romans need our slaves.

We are the weak-willed slaves of society. And in the flame of order we will burn even ourselves.

Only slaves, whether they realize it or not, think in terms of "their own kitchen."
