Book: “The boy’s word. Criminal Tatarstan 1970 - 2010s."

The word “zapadlo” comes from thieves’ slang and means a violation of the thieves’ law. For example, in places of deprivation of liberty it is common practice to engage in ratting (stealing from one’s own). On the streets of Kazan, this word had a similar meaning and literally meant “not according to concepts.” They were severely punished for this, including being kicked out of the group.
Quote Explanation: “Vadlo or zapadlo is a self-prohibition on some actions that fall under the category of “not according to concepts” or do not correspond to your moral principles. And a ban is simply a restriction on something by elders and younger people. For example, a ban on the use of alcohol, drugs, smoking, and so on. Pushing someone while walking with a girl is not a prohibition, but rather a fall. And it’s not necessary that they’ll fuck you off after that.” (c) anonymous consultant

Concepts have always been flexible. If they correspond purely to my interests, then I will go all the way; if the interests of the street need to give in and move somewhere, I will easily give in in the interests of the team, because the prospect is different for the guys. Concepts changed to suit time, to suit movements. Those older ones, who were not initially commercial, became legalized by the end of the 1990s. Everyone became some kind of directors, founders.

The Kazan group never told its boys: go steal, rob. In Kazan, they didn’t particularly like those who were imprisoned for rape...

The main thing that unites the Kazan boy code and thieves’ concepts is that there is no turning back. That is, you can only climb to the next step, but if you ever go down to a lower one, you will never rise. If someone is rejected, spat on, pissed on, he will never return to “respected” society. The same thing in the zone. In the zone and in Kazan you can never hand over your own, although both of them, of course, secretly handed over their own. But nevertheless, the code prohibits this.

... the boy's word was valued very highly. If you're a 'loser', then on our street they'll definitely turn you down. There was no such thing that if you didn’t keep your boy’s word, you would remain a boy. I don’t know how it is on the other side of the city, but the Zhilkovskys and Gryazevskys, if they gave a boy their word, always kept it. Another thing is that this word was never thrown around and was given infrequently.
Quote Explanation: To be a brat is to fail to fulfill a promise backed by the boy’s word.
