I worked the night shift at the warehouse deliveries and loading orders into the trucks, then carrying them in various stores in the morning. I loved it for three reasons: I got the job, she gave me enough that I didn't need to beg the old man's cash, and it annoyed Daniel that his son works at such a low position.

The visitors were the usual suspects: Sally, who really liked my parents, perhaps even more than I; my father, Daniel, lawyer; my mother, Marlene, wife of a lawyer; and my sister and best friend, Nancy, sent to earth by the grace of God, not to the relatives brought me to madness.
As I said, it all started on my 22nd birthday, specifically here at my traditional birthday lunch. As always my father had picked the restaurant. Attending were the usual suspects: Sally, who my parents actually liked, maybe even more than I did; my dad, Daniel, attorney-at-law; my mom, Marlene, the attorney's wife; and my sister and best friend, Nancy, put on earth by the grace of God to keep me from going insane.

And this is a good explanation for this, as for everything else. So, a lot of stories start in bars, so we'll start there. Not because I was there. But because it's a damn good familiarity with unique... guy.
