Do not criticize others, try to get along with them, go towards them, be patient with them, be gentle and friendly, live for everyone, make your neighbor happy, humble yourself, keep silent, be sympathetic - for God's sake, respectful.

There is only one way for me to keep my respect for myself: constant criticism.

Anyone who dares to speak publicly about other people's works is obliged to make every effort to understand them or at least determine the conditions assumed by the author or dictated to him.

They do not criticize only those who do not say anything, do not do and are not anyone.

The first condition of criticism is for the critic to recognize that the field of art stands completely separate and apart from the sphere of ethics.

If criticism wants to be fair, or, in other words, if it wants to justify its purpose, it must be passionate, partisan, militant, it must proceed from a position that is purely individual and at the same time one that opens up the broadest horizons possible.

Denying the positive benefits of criticism is like arguing that the police do not bring any positive benefits, since its main task is to prevent violence by some citizens against others so that everyone can calmly and fearlessly go about their business.

Literary criticism is the most useless and bloody profession in the world.

There is a bad tradition when they criticize not someone's teaching, but their interpretation, the degree of their understanding, the measure of their own foolishness. First perverted - then criticized. Simple and easy. Moreover, the possibilities of plebeian perversion are immeasurable.

An artist can do no more than open his soul to others. You can not present him with pre-made rules. He is still an unknown world where everything is new. We must forget what captivated others, here is different. Otherwise, you will listen and not hear, you will look without understanding.

The Thinker needs no one to refute him; he satisfies himself in this respect!

And mine is not to listen.
