People used to believe that the soul of the dead could be caught in a mirror, like a trap. That is why many of the old people here are still in a hurry to curtain all the mirrors when someone dies in the house, and the clock is stopped to give the dead person the opportunity to get to heaven before the devil knows about his death.

To draw means, overcoming difficulties, to pull something out.

You can't live your whole life in fear.
