Book: The Subtle Art of Don't Care: A Paradoxical Way to Live Happily

One day you will die. I know this is obvious, but just in case, I remind you - they suddenly forgot. You and all the people you know are about to die. In the little remaining time, you will have time to take care of a little. Very few. And if you are going to freak out about every occasion, then you’ll be addicted. You have to be able - just to be able - to give a damn. Perhaps it sounds ridiculous, and I look like an idiot, but in essence, this is what we are talking about: you need to learn not to be scattered about and focus your thought on the main thing. You need to learn to understand what you personally value the most - and then do a hard screening.

We let go of jokes about "Third World problems," but we have fallen victim to our own success. Over the past thirty years, stress illnesses, anxiety neuroses and depression have begun to occur at every turn, although everyone has a flat screen TV and food is delivered to the house. Because we've managed to see and learn too much, we've seen a lot of situations where we don't conform to the ideal, or aren't good enough, or something is missing. And it drives us crazy.

Focusing on the positive– the best, the excellent – only reminds us over and over again of what we have not become; what we lack; about dreams that did not come true. After all, no truly happy person will stand in front of a mirror and tell himself that he is happy. Why would he?
