Parenting is not about stopping bad behavior or making children obey us. It consists in directing children's souls to God's love in the daily struggle. We walk along this path with them, and in this journey we grow and become closer to God in our everyday life.

To educate is not to teach children to lead well, although this short-term goal is very tempting. Our long-term goal is to raise children who recognize themselves as children of God and who live their lives according to His commandments. We should think less about curbing bad behavior and more about mentoring, raising children who understand they are citizens of Heaven.

Many of us spend more time figuring out the remote control than figuring out how to raise our kids.
