Character: Jim Hawkins

- Have you seen the sea devil?
- I saw. It's just unclear. But my friend Sandy Gabbort saw it for sure.
It was Christmas Eve. And we've been out of the Clyde for seventeen days. And we had a hard time. We were walking north. And all the time a good wind was blowing. But one day... all the gear suddenly began to ring strangely, like a whole demonic chorus, so that the blood was frozen in the veins. And Sandy was standing at the stakes and we couldn't see him at the mainmast where we were fastening the sails.
And all of a sudden, Sandy screams! We all rushed to him. And he only managed to say that..."there, at the bowsprit, a sea devil emerged from the water... "
Half an hour later, Sandy died. And the sea immediately calmed down.
- And what was it like?
- What was it like? God forbid we all know this.

The stars look strictly at the midnight hour
Moonlight path chooses us
Attracts a Brigantine at sea beauty
Boy man makes a dream!
Now the dream of your own size!
You in network to catch rush,
The sea heart is an island,
And in him the treasures of the soul!

A similar story happened, not once,
And each of us led a sea breeze,
And full sails rocked the clouds,
Where dawn gets up, we'll throw the anchor!

You never can say in advance what will affect the superstitious people.

This Ben Gunn can rely on? he asked.
- I don't know, sir, ' I replied. I'm not quite sure that his head is in order.
- If I'm not quite sure, so he's OK, ' said the doctor. - When a person three years biting his nails on a desert island, Jim, it may not look just as normal as you or me. That's how people are.

It appeared that my curiosity was stronger than fear. How I cursed the cowardice of our neighbors! As I was angry at my poor mother for her honesty and her greed, for her past courage and her present weakness!

I'm not going to describe the details of our trip. It was very successful. The ship was exemplary, the team consisted of experienced sailors, the captain knew his business. But before we reached Treasure Island, happened two or three events worth mentioning. There was nothing strange in the fact that all shouted "hurrah." But it was made so heartily and in unison, which I confess I could scarcely the minute to believe that these same people are going to kill us all.

Twenty-six people we could rely only on seven. And one of the seven was me, boy. If you count only adults, we were six against nineteen.

I first experienced the joy of the Explorer of unknown countries. The island was uninhabited.
