I have devoted my whole life to conducting and, if you asked me today what kind of profession a conductor is, I would answer: a monstrous profession that has nothing in common with the one that many people imagine it to be - easy, fun, tailcoat, stage lights, power over a hundred musicians. This is a lot of work, every time there is an exam, there is excitement. Moreover, there is always only one conductor - like a captain on the bridge. It’s impossible to get used to the fact that hundreds of people’s eyes are focused on you, and I always worry, even at rehearsal.
Energy, labor and struggle - this is how the environment is processed.

But tell a writer that his work is a lie, and he is quite ready to hang himself. Burn, go to extremes, end the century. I saw this in times much younger than these.
