It is impossible to live without writing anything.

It should be noted that I am generally a composer looking for the unknown; I am somehow ashamed to admit to my composer activity. This is understandable. For others, it is a direct matter, a duty, the goal of life; for me, it is relaxation, fun, a whim, distracting me from my direct, real business - professorship, science.

I have devoted my whole life to conducting and, if you asked me today what kind of profession a conductor is, I would answer: a monstrous profession that has nothing in common with the one that many people imagine it to be - easy, fun, tailcoat, stage lights, power over a hundred musicians. This is a lot of work, every time there is an exam, there is excitement. Moreover, there is always only one conductor - like a captain on the bridge. It’s impossible to get used to the fact that hundreds of people’s eyes are focused on you, and I always worry, even at rehearsal.

People need music when they are happy and sad. Dad, I think you're on the right track. Where else should a musician be, if not at a wedding or funeral.

The musicians were in their own world - and, judging by the sounds they made, not in one, but in three.

If a young singer can demonstrate the evenness of sound, express the deep meaning and significance of a work, convey the restrained and noble style of classical music, he is truly a promising master. Vocal competitions immediately reveal this.

Poets do not know how to give flowers, artists and musicians, apparently, too. It’s not good to reproach them for this, it’s not good. After all, they are capable of giving people a soul, and in this they are not like us at all!

Wise musicians are those who play what they know how to play.

These are not tracks, these are tears, their whole album.

Before each performance (it doesn’t matter if it’s a solo concert, a team program, filming, a birthday or a corporate party), I feel both awe and fear, although I just can’t understand what I’m afraid of. Probably, I'm not quite callous yet, I know how to worry ...

And how many people can endure such a life as I lead? Play, perform almost seven times a week, you know, sometimes it seems that you have already spent nine thousand hours on buses, trains and planes, only to be in time, tired as a dog, and then grab your pipe right off the bat, sing, go all out!

Do not tear your souls, musicians, - after all, music should ennoble!
