Only death makes life real.

Life is the warming up of death.

It is not given to us to know how to move from this life to the next.

Your life did not bring harm or problems to anyone, but your death will bring pain to everyone who loves you.

Life is the desire of matter for self-awareness.

It is happiness if a person is buried where he was born. I will probably be buried here in Peredelkino. Although I was born in Warsaw. But, by the way, I have no complaints; among these graves there is quite a decent company.

This is the price of survival: remember the dead, make the necessary speeches, and then move on and hope for the best.

- And I, the fool, was going to die. Ask, father, maybe you should get married one last time?

...He died as death said, he died when he least wanted it, when after so many years of fruitless illusions and self-deception he began to realize that people do not live, but exist, damn it, that the longest and most active life is only enough for that to learn to live - at the very end...

Not too many winters will come and go - and you and I will disappear too, leaving behind only bones to serve as homes for tiny creatures. And you know what, brave Tailpipe? The world dance will not falter in a single step from these disappearances.

Although everyone, especially the officers who had been in action, knew and could know that in the war then in the Caucasus, and never anywhere does that hand-to-hand cutting with swords, which is always assumed and described, happen (and if such hand-to-hand fighting with swords and bayonets does happen, then they always cut and stab only those who are running), this fiction of hand-to-hand combat was recognized by the officers and gave them that calm pride and gaiety with which they, some in brave, others, on the contrary, in the most modest poses, sat on the drums, smoked, drank and joked, not caring about death, which, like Sleptsov, could befall each of them at any moment.

The road of life leads only to one thing - to death. However, this does not mean that she is only one. On the way, you can always find a detour or a short path. One will race in an expensive car. Another, foaming at the lips, will crawl to the finish line in a jalopy. Someone will make a couple of stops. And the other will slow down at every opportunity, just to enjoy the journey.
