Flesh addicted to vices can never be overcome by anything!

I killed the flesh in myself, but the spirit was again overgrown with a lustful body.

It is easy to fly to the Creator.

The first generation of survivors - the one that suffered the most - carried their pain close to the surface; memories, like splinters, cut into the flesh, some pierced the skin, others remained invisible to the eye. Meanwhile, the next generation was ready to dig up the past and break the seal of silence. Strange as it may seem, but in the families of internally displaced persons, who retained the scars of war and suffered from violence, it was the young who had the oldest memory.

If the flesh is a piece of life, then life is a piece of the material world, Nature, and we must accept it, this world, in all its grandeur, in all the breadth of its material nature, and depict it as such.

Human flesh, imperfect, accessible to disease and old age, submissive to temptations, is a true piece of life. We cannot but recognize her imperfections, but we have no right to consider her sinful because of these imperfections.

A writer cannot write about himself unless he is ready to cut off every layer of protection between the book and his own soul. Words must come straight from the womb, break through flesh and blood. Ugly, honest, bloody and a little creepy, but completely sincere. An autobiography that encourages the reader to feel sympathy for the author is not a true autobiography. Nobody is cute from the inside out. After reading the autobiography, the author should have, at best, hostility.

It's funny how one memory stood out in a sea of others. It's always been that way with bad memories. The bad ones left scars. Even now, standing on that porch, I could feel the wrinkled flesh of that scar.
