You can’t jump into fate in one leap, like a girl in a pony. The path to the fulfillment of destiny is long, and even knowing it does not save you the trouble of moving your feet.

Being an actor is my destiny. And if we take our craft seriously and deeply, it is a huge, difficult spiritual, physical and moral work. I have met people who managed to maintain dignity in their profession. You should pay attention to them, respect them, appreciate them and... forgive them!..

One of the main goals of science has always been the realization that we cannot get answers to questions simply intuitively. This requires diligence, hard work and time to find solutions and answers. Often successes are preceded by many failures.

I'm lazy! I hate working! I hate hard work in all its forms! Cunning and elegant solutions are my strong point!

I am obsessed with the absurd idea that the English people are forced to work as hard as any other people living under the sun.

After all, I must go forward! must win! - Will all these proud undertakings, these plans, this work, this continuous work of many years, turn into nothing? My youth is the youth of a genius. I lived and acted in such a way that only great deeds can justify my behavior. They have to be or I'll be ridiculous.

You young people don’t really know what it’s like to be hungry. Live in abundance. Do you dream of not having to work, but at the same time having a lot of money? Someone always owes you something. And we, people of the old Soviet school, we can always earn our bread at any age, because for us to work does not mean to be a slave, it means to take responsibility.

On the way from the meadow to the house, I tried not to think about anything. My first editor liked to say that eighty percent of what goes through a novelist's head has nothing to do with his work, but I never believed that this applied only to writers. And the so-called sublime thoughts, to put it mildly, are greatly overrated. When faced with a problem and something needs to be done, I firmly believe that the best solution is to step aside and let the boys in the basement do their work. This is hard physical work, the lot of blue collar, non-unionized guys with huge biceps and a scattering of tattoos all over their bodies. They act guided by instinct, and turn to those above them for advice only as a last resort.

Sometimes, to get to the bottom of the truth, you have to sweat.

I have devoted my whole life to conducting and, if you asked me today what kind of profession a conductor is, I would answer: a monstrous profession that has nothing in common with the one that many people imagine it to be - easy, fun, tailcoat, stage lights, power over a hundred musicians. This is a lot of work, every time there is an exam, there is excitement. Moreover, there is always only one conductor - like a captain on the bridge. It’s impossible to get used to the fact that hundreds of people’s eyes are focused on you, and I always worry, even at rehearsal.
