... when I write, I never imagine characters, faces, I have an auditory perception. And the way I hear them is the music of emotions, the music of words and silence, which arises as a distance between what people say and what they actually want to say.

No matter how close you and your friends are, after a long separation there is still a distance between you.

No need to hang over the front rows. People don't like this. There should be a distance between the speaker and the audience. This is a prerequisite for a good and memorable performance.

Throughout my adult life, I keep distance from people, this is my way of survival, it is also connected with the fact that in my thoughts and feelings I come so close to others that it is enough for them to look at me coldly for a second, so that a storm breaks out in my soul.

To shoot down a plane is not to wave your hand. From desire to skill, the distance is very large. Here I have an opponent recorded. Because to defeat the enemy, you need to know his strengths and weaknesses.

Distance inevitably appears between two people when one of them deliberately strikes an arrow into a lingering wound.

The credibility of oil painting makes the viewer believe that he is very close to depicted on the foreground of the image objects (can literally touch them). If it shows the person such proximity implies a certain degree of intimacy.
However, the official portrait is intended, on the contrary, to stress the distance. That is why (and not because of lack of skill from the artist) person on the average portrait, painted in the traditional way, looked so constrained and motionless. This artificiality is rooted in the requirements of the image: the object needs to be seen both near and afar. You can draw an analogy with samples examined under a microscope. Here they are in front of us, we can study them, but you can't imagine the same way they treated us.

Original paintings are silent and still. It can not boast of information. Even the reproduction hanging on the wall, incomparable in this respect with the original, where silence and peace pervade the material itself, the paint, allowing to trace directly the movements of the artist. And thus reduced the temporal distance between the creation of the painting and our staring at her. In this specific sense, all paintings are thoroughly modern. Hence the immediacy of their testimony. The historical moment is literally standing in front of our eyes.

For the Orthodox consciousness of heaven and hell are not determined by some material attributes. This is not a set of sensual pleasures or bodily pain. And no place in space (the heavens above and the underworld below), and the distance that the man moves away from God. And Paradise, and probably could be described as the light of God's presence, poured out everywhere. Uncreated light that emanated from Him even before the creation of the universe, fills all things and keeping them alive. and how each particular person perceives this fiery river, which meanders from the throne, is determined only by the state of mind in which she resides in the afterlife (see 1 Cor. 3: 11-15).
