We are even weary of being human beings, human beings with a real, own body and blood; we are ashamed of this, we consider it a disgrace and strive to be some kind of unprecedented common people. We are stillborn, and besides, we have been born for a long time not from living fathers, and we like this more and more. We get into the taste. Soon we will invent to be born somehow from an idea.

What is happening in Ukraine? Ukrainian nationalists are not capable of anything but killing people. Can anyone name at least one enterprise opened in the last year or two? <...> So, the only thing that a modern Ukrainian nationalist can do is rob and kill. And this means that the most embittered, burdened with complexes, short-sighted and stupid people who are ready to do anything for the sake of some ephemeral idea should be included in their ranks. Blaming anyone for their own inferiority, they aim to destroy the enemy.

It takes a lot more intelligence to communicate your ideas than it does to have them.

A good idea has countless sides.

There are ideal combinations of events that unfold in parallel with what is happening. They rarely match. People and circumstances, as a rule, distort the ideal sequence of events to the same extent that it is distorted, and their consequences will not be what they could be. So with the Reformation: Lutheranism appeared instead of Protestantism.

This inconsistency of the worldview with the spiritual needs of the individual, who, however, cannot overcome it from the inside, is Herzen's spiritual drama. Where does Herzen point the way, where does he lead, if not with his opinions, then with his searches, his struggles and mental wounds, falls and disappointments? To that which is a radical denial of positivism and a spiritual victory over it - to an idealistic and religious worldview, to the recognition that behind the world of phenomena there is a realm of truly existing being, an ideal world, a kingdom of absolute Truth, Good and Beauty; in striving for it, in religious "contact with other worlds" (as Dostoevsky liked to express himself) is the life of the spirit, and this living connection with the ideal world gives strength, support and consolation in the struggle of life in the name of this ideal beginning.
